The Goalsquare method is a curriculum for modern, concept-driven goalkeeper training. It consists of 5 elements that build on each other but also interlock. Alongside goalkeeper-specific attributes, a large part of the method is dedicated to the footballing skills of the goalkeeper.

The 5 core elements.

Five elements that build on each other and interlock – from isolated basic technique to game-realistic competition under pressure.

Every element contains dedicated drills for each age and performance level, so every goalkeeper can be developed individually. The difficulty can be adapted to the level of the keeper.

01

The technical foundation: basic position, catching, and a smooth movement toward the ball.

This is the base of our method. It contains: the basic position, receiving, movements to and with the ball, catching the ball and of course coordination, which should not be missing in any session.

In addition to the goalkeeper-specific characteristics, we also pay special attention to the soccer skills of the goalkeeper when learning the basic technique.

02

Close-range ball control: fast feet, agility, positional play.

This is mainly about the mobility of the goalkeeper, the ability to quickly move back and forth, as well as sideways, in the goal area.

In this category belong the techniques of fast feet, the ball attack, reaction and reflex, as well as the body tension.

03

Securing the ball under pressure: catching technique, controlled falling and shot stopping.

The “Ball Protection” consists of exercises and games that teach movements to secure the ball.

The techniques included in the ball protection are the catching technique (ball catching), the falling technique, as well as the shot defense / shot stopping.

04

Reading the game and the field: game opening, anticipation and early adjustment to ball movement.

In this element, the playful characteristics, such as positional play at crosses and corners, the game opening by hand and foot, as well as movements in the game will be encouraged.

05

Everything in a competitive setting: game-like situations involving decision-making and pressure to finish.

The Game Play improves the goalkeeper to play in interaction with the team and in different game situations. The learned is applied in playful fun shapes and competitions.

The goal is to place games and competitions between goalkeepers (goalkeeper vs. goalkeeper), goalkeeper and field players (goalkeeper vs. team), as well as finals (cooling down) to play at the end of a training session.
